ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Ms. MINNIE JOHNSON - ANDERSON
Minnie Johnson-Anderson was born in the small town of
Falkland , North
Carolina to a family of
sharecroppers. Presently Minnie is known as
the Volunteer Queen, because she is involved in everything that will
positivelypromote Greenville , North Carolina and
Pitt County Minnie was the first
African American woman to chair the Redevelopment Commission in Greenville ,
N.C., which under her
leadership resulted in the revitalization of the West Greenville 45 Block area of the city.
This initiative removed blight such as substandard housing, incompatible land uses and
inadequate public infrastructure. It created opportunities for economic development,
including quality affordable housing, improving street and traffic flow and great locations
where businesses can prosper thereby creating new jobs and additional economic opportunity
for the residents.
Ms. Minnie as she is so affectionately called, graduated
from Elizabeth City State
University ,
East Carolina University,
District of Columbia Business Institute, Laney School of Real Estate, University of the District
of Columbia, General Communications and Auctioneering School.
Ms. Minnie has served on the Mental Health Advisory Board and Clients Rights Committee,
Greenville-Pitt Convention & Visitors Bureau Committee for African American History, Winning
With Diabetes Committee, Strategic Planning Committee for Greenville, Historic Preservation
Commission, WOOW Radio Talk Show Host,, Outreach Program of the radio talk show, Community
Connections at the Joy Soup Kitchen, Greenville African American Heritage Museum, Nursing Home
Advisory Board, Motivational Speaker, Inventor, and many more
Minnie Johnson-Anderson has had many honors and memberships. Inclusions have been as one of the
Outstanding Young Women of America , Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the South and
Southeast, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Wilmingtonian Magazine. She was selected as A.K.A.
Mother of the Year and recently included in the American Firsts at East Carolina University because she was one of the first African Americans to be hired
on the faculty as Residence Administrator for Women. With all this experience and dedicated community
service, Minnie Johnson-Anderson decided that she would run in the Municipal
Elections of 2009 as a candidate for Mayor of Greenville, NC.
